Here is a story that I found interesting concerning the way humans learn compared to chimps. The crux of the research is that humans are given a set of instructions and then complete the set of instructions regardless of the fact that half the steps may be unnecessary. Chimps evaluate the situation, eliminate unnecessary steps and achieve the same goal. It is as if humans are mentally lazy; we do not want to think about a better way, we were just given the solution, why work any harder than we have too? Makes you think about how this may translate into other aspects of our lives. Why go out and work 40-80 hours a week when the government has just given me the solution via welfare? Why save money for my retirement, the government is going to bail me out via social security. Why teach my kids morals, the education system will do it for me. Maybe it is time for alternative solutions. How about we teach people how not to use the government? If humans inherently do what we are shown without thinking, maybe we should show people how to solve problems for themselves? With any luck, humans will not think and actually accomplish things without government help.
